For our Galleries Night event in Bangkok on Friday 25 November 2024, we took inspiration from the Equinox when the sun passes over the equator marking the beginning of Autumn, the turning of the weather to cooler days and the anticipation of the winter festivities to come.
Now open at our Bangkok Gallery, “Equinox” presents a group of sculptural illuminations by Alexander Lamont in rich natural materials. Eroded cast brass, woven natural fibres sparkling with gold thread, translucent rock crystal and alabaster, warm rich straw marquetry and tactile shagreen are brought to life in a collection of arresting lighting elements.
Equinox Sconce
Evoking the movement of the sun across the equator, curvaceous forms in straw marquetry provide a perfectly crafted and toned foil for light, as both wall sculpture and lighting element. Intercrossing and intersecting lines of saturated straw in soft golden brown cover rounded shields that animate the light, creating a dynamic sense of movement.
Galea Lantern
The Galea Lantern brings the warmth and charisma of alabaster and rock crystal to the seasonal table with this intimate and tactile lighting element. Inspired by the idea of a metal helmet worn by legionaries during the Roman Empire, a cast bronze casket holds a translucent stone – alabaster or rock crystal – that emanates light and creates an atmospheric light sculpture.
Chime Pendant Lamps
Suspended like a set of bells at the top of a bell tower, the set of three pendant lamps is finished in beautifully textured shagreen; pure gold leaf glows from within.
The Chime lamps, in three different shapes and two natural finishes, can be hung individually or in large groups. Shagreen in pale natural speckle or in dark natural chocolate is placed geometrically on slightly tapered shades that are lined with gold. The shade is affixed with a bronze holder that echoes the form of the lamp.
Hedra Sconce
Hedra Sconces are subtly mirrored pairs of wall lights that marry the supple warmth of cast bronze with the cool interior glow of faceted crystal. Like rare minerals found deep within a cave, bronze cocoons lined with gold encase faceted crystal gemstones that glow with seductive light. These gorgeous wall lamps have an artistic presence emitting light and mood.
Paglia Lamps
Like cliffs eroded, their strata exposed, the Paglia collection plays on the wonderful detail and texture of rye straw. The burnished texture of the Paglia lamps catches, reflects and plays with the light enhancing the intriguing surface that is beautifully paired with the lamp’s shade. Developed by French textile designer Anne Corbière for Alexander Lamont, the Kita handmade fabric expertly combines the rawness of natural Asian rattan with the refinement of linen and precious metallic woven threads.
