A Whiter Shade of Pale – Wall Sconces from Alexander Lamont

24 July 2024 Posted by Alexandra Lamont

Strong, yet flexible, bronze is an exciting material to work with for its organic and sculptural qualities. Through the lost-wax process bronze can be molded into any form and finished in myriad tactile, sculptural effects and surface patinas. Working with colour variants in bronze is challenging. From deep blue and chestnut patinated bronze, to silvered bronze and burnished brass at Alexander Lamont we are always on the look out for new finishes for this most alluring decorative material.  This year we introduced white bronze as an alternative to our dark bronze patina finish in wall lighting elements. Evoking tones of alabaster and white porcelain, the original dark bronze-cast designs are re-imagined in luminous, pale alternatives to create striking new accent lighting elements with glowing golden interiors.

Canoas Sconce

The Canoas sconce is a small but potently sculptural wall light designed by Antonio da Motta for the Atlantica collection in 2017. Deriving its name from the Portuguese for canoe the primeval yet elegant form of the Canoas sconce becomes warmly light and airy in white bronze with a pure gold-leaf lining.

Aloe Wall Sconce

Like a shell or a succulent petal, the Aloe Wall sconce glows and changes its mood depending on whether it is lit or unlit. A collaboration with South African artist Astrid Dahl for our 2021 Delta Collection, the Aloe Wall sconce like all of her work is inspired by nature’s forms. Within light-palette interiors the delicate Aloe sconce brings an even lighter shade of pale.

Marquis Sconce

A cast bronze form that mirrors the marquis diamond cut. With a richly sculpted texture, the sconce creates shafts of light emanating in lines and points. The sconce becomes texturally minimal in the white bronze version giving way to the play of light and shadow behind the ghostlike form.

Mentawai Sconce

Designed by Roger Thomas for Alexander Lamont the Mentawai sconce was inspired by shields from the furthest islands of the South Seas. Curving, elegant and sculptural the white bronze version appears as luminous as porcelain in this contemporary alternative to the dark bronze patina.
