Over the next few weeks we will be presenting the new collection of furniture, lighting and decorative objects by Alexander Lamont – Sirena. The collection brings designs by Alexander Lamont together with some designs from LA-based Brazilian designer Antonio da Motta. Both designers worked from shared inspirations drawn from the forms, textures and colours of Africa, each bringing a subtly different approach to these themes. Sirena invokes the power of objects, their symbolism and totemic energy, brought to life through Lamont’s celebrated palette of precious materials and artisan virtuosity.
We begin the presentation of Sirena with two formidable lighting elements. In conceiving these pieces Antonio da Motta was inspired by the myths of the Yoruba people of Africa and the forms and textures of their aesthetic heritage.
The Ogún Table Lamp has an elemental structure. Cast bronze supports a towering cup of onyx marble. Light floods upwards and through the cystaline warmth.
The Shangó Uplight exudes texture and materiality. Dark shades of onyx marble are hand-carved and turned as cuff and shade to contrast with the dark cast bronze stand.
The two lamps are designed by Antonio da Motta drawing on inspirations from antiquity and the myths and forms of the Yoruba culture.
